Women’s Fall Sports Continue Making Strides to Regions --Oct. 20, 2008 By:Katie Logan

SCC women’s soccer continues making strides to qualify them into the ACCAC Regional Tournament. Heading into the last week of conference play ranking 5th in the conference with 7-8 record; chances of making it to the Regional Tournament look promising. The tournament is single elimination format with the top six teams from conference. Soccer will finish up their remaining two conference games on the road; first at Mesa (10/22) and then at Pima (10/25). Julia Anglin and goal keeper Janelle Richardson graze the top list of athletes in the ACCAC conference.

SCC volleyball continues to break way as they finish up their last two conference games.  The ‘Chokes current record 10-6 will guarantee a spot in the ACCAC Regional Tournament.  The tournament is split by division; the top four DII teams make the tournament.  Our stellar athletes continue to lead the conference in a variety of areas. Haylee Thompson was named ACCAC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and leads the conference with 368 kills and a .352 hitting percentage. Ace queen, Erin Flake leads the conference with 91 blocks and ranks 6th with 33 aces. Setter Megan Sobczyk continues to reach the top with 540 assists and a .376 hitting percentage. Let’s not forget our libero, Leilani Ili who also reaches the top with 325 digs!

Awesome work all around ‘Chokes continue to lead us all the way to the ‘ship! Come support volleyball as they wrap up their season with their last home game vs. Chandler-Gilbert this Friday (10/24).

Returning NJCAA All- American Haylee Thompson was named NJCAA DII Player of the Week, Oct. 8 2008. Thompson lead the ‘Chokes to  victories over South Mountain and nationally ranked no. 5 Glendale who had previously been undefeated. Thompson recorded a total of 53 kills and 41 digs for both matches. The outside hitter averaged 6.63 kills and 5.13 digs per game with a .452 hitting percentage.

Not to mention Thompson has also been awarded ACCAC Player of the Week three times this season. Congratulations on all your success Haylee. The SCC staff and community is proud to have such a great role model to represent our community. Thanks for wearing green!

Whole Lot of Heart, Volleyball-- October 6,2008 By: Katie Logan

Scottsdale volleyball has yet another successful week. Early in the week the 'Chokes defeated Glendale to give the Gauchos their first lost in conference (10/1). Scottsdale was eager to face Glendale (no. 1 in conference) to prove that Artichokes have more heart. The 'Chokes sure did possess a lot of heart as they beat up Glendale in straight sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-18)!

The 'Chokes brought that same intensity and heart as they defeated South Mountain (19-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-11)later that week. Scottsdale Haylee Thompson was named ACCAC Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season; averaging a whopping 6.6 kills a set with .452 hitting percentage and 5.13 digs per set! Thompson continues to lead the conference with 4 kills per game. Team mates that also lead the conference, Erin Flake, Alex DeWulf, Leilani Ili and Megan Sobczyk only add more strength and consistency to the 'Chokes line up.
