Stacked Trio Joins Athletic Department -- July 25, 2008

SCC is pleased to welcome three young and talented New Staff Members to the Women’s Athletic Department; each providing knowledge and experience to benefit the growth and development for Women’s Athletics.

The first to join SCC is Nicole Childers; currently a senior at ASU, majoring in Communications. Childers played basketball in high school but decided to pursue other sports-related avenues. Not steering away from sports, her internships include: Phoenix Mercury/Suns Marketing Partnerships (2008), Northwest Sports and Entertainment, Inc. Intern (2007-08), Arizona State University Women’s Basketball Team Manager (2005-08) and Gaylord Sports Management Intern (2007). Childers possesses a wealth of work related experience, as well as exemplary knowledge and insight. As a recipient of the Provost’s Scholarship and Dean’s Circle Scholarship in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, Childers is on the Dean’s Honor List with a 4.00 GPA. Childers is one smart and valuable Artie!

Next to jump on board, Karen Thies; is currently obtaining her Liberal Studies Master’s from ASU while working as Graduate Assistant for the Women’s Basketball Team. Thies, received a full-ride basketball scholarship and earned a B.A. Business Marketing from University of Nebraska at Omaha. In her three years playing for Nebraska (one for Fort Lewis College), Thies was awarded many accolades including: All Region (2007), All- Conference (2003-07), Academic All- Conference (2005-07), Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Scholar Athlete of the Year (2007) and served as Team Captain (2004-07). Thies combination of collegiate experience along with academic recognition makes her a very important addition to the SCC Athletic Department.

Last but certainly not least to join the team was Katie Logan. Logan another former collegiate athlete, received a full-ride softball scholarship and earned a B.A. Communication Studies from Northwestern University. As Team Captain (2006-07) she lead her team to back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Women’s College World Series, placing 2nd (’06) and 3rd (’07). Logan received many accolades while playing: First Team All Big-Ten (2006-07), First Team NFCA All-Midwest Region (2006-07), Big Ten All- Tournament Team (2006-07), for Inspiration and Leadership Vandy Christie Memorial Scholarship (2007). Logan also has work experience in the sports industry working as: Sports Camp Federation Marketing Associate (2008) and Northwestern Media Services Intern (2007). Logan’s combined experience and knowledge on and off the field only adds to the already stellar duo of Childers and Thies.

Quite a trio of talent, SCC is glad to have you all on board!
